Getting Old!

Hi. I have just picked up my varifocal prescription glasses. I am at the age where my eyes need a little help!

Regarding eye accessing cues. I was wondering if anyone has thought about whether they influence how you process information. They train the eyes to focus in a direction that seems unnatural (well to me anyway!).

I am curious if they have long term effects, and will I start experiencing life in a completely different way. Hopefully they will stop the double vision, but that's not quite what I mean! :))

Anorexia Specialists and Advice Please

hi

I'm looking for recommendations for a hypnotherapist that specializes in treating people with anorexia.

I have searched the net and been met with various adverts for cd downloads to regressionists to chakra balancing and emdr etc and a number of other therapies which seem to be based on experimenting with different methods over an unknown number of sessions.

The only person who i have found that seems to specialize is a practitioner in the North East ( thehypnosisworks.co.uk) who seems to have had success with one or two day sessions. Does anyone have any further details or reviews of this company.

Please note that the person i am seeking help for has already been to an NLP practitioner and a Hypnotherapist but stopped after 2 and 3 sessions of what seemed to be an open ended therapy. Therefore the idea of 1/2 intensive days to completion is a very seductive image.

Surely, as anorexia is ultimately a unhealthy model of peoples internal reality then a hypnotist who specializes in producing belief change may well have excellent results very quickly. I feel that sometimes people, like me, who study NLP/Hypnosis can overcomplicate and overexamine problems in order to understand the issues. Such deep analysis may be interesting and show that we care but and are intellectual but some clients just want change without understanding.

Perhaps some members on this board like Anthony Jacquin etc who seem to specialize in belief change for stage/ street hypnosis could help in advising whether this type of method would have long term benefits in cases like anorexia.

And please, any recommendations for therapists experienced in eating disorders would be most appreciated.

Confused and Skeptical

Having spoken to a good few people who have experienced NLP my impression of NLP is a good one, BUT. I have a personal prejudice against the practice setting aside bandlers involvement with what I understand to be the murder of a prostitute, drug dealing and some clandestine CIA involvement all of which information I have seen on the internet. I guess we all know how credible that information may be.

I have personal experience of a so called NLP Master who runs a school in the south of England with his wife and they both have some serious moral short comings. In trying not to be too judgmental I will only tell you of what I know in that they both abuse alcohol and hard line drugs and indulge in group sex acts with other family members amongst others. They are cowardly, greedy and I can tell you that from my understanding of the situation learned NLP at what was his own sisters NLP school which she had worked very hard at building up only to take it from her when she entrusted the management of the school to them whilst she went on a long holiday. They apparently took most of her regular clients with them leaving her with nothing. This is only the tip of the iceberg as there are many other money grabbing issues such as profiteering from his own Mothers funeral. I do not wish to expand any further on this description of these two as I have no desire to reveal their identities or attack them personally. I simply want to paint the picture as I know it to demonstrate my skepticism.

My point is that from what I have witnessed outside of these two people other NLP practitioners and clients seem to be of high moral standing with ethics and with integrity. My question is simple. Does NLP
conform and propagate an ethical and high degree of morality amongst its practitioners and moreover their teachers or is it simply a money making scheme of learning to manipulate other unsuspecting peoples minds to control outcomes for the NLP practitioners own benefit? I ask this because it would fall into the mold of the people I have described earlier, perfectly.

I am not one of their victims but am trying to clarify for myself if I were to involve myself in NLP are these the type of people I would encounter and is this what NLP stands for.

What Would Your Life Be Like If …..

..... you were a person who had all of the following beliefs operating simultaneously. I momentarily imagined what my experience would be like if I were to have all of these beliefs.

While I have some sense of what my experience would probably be like, I would like to seek inputs from others regarding what their experience would be like if they were to imagine having all these beliefs.

a) If someone does not communicate something directly and bluntly, they have not communicated it at all. Metaphors and analogies do not count for any communication.

b) If people are not from the same area as you (whether a physical geographical location or whether a logical subject matter) - then there is know way they can know anything about that area.

c) If, in your opinion, people do not know as much about a subject matter as you - you consider it as a folly that needs to be forgiven (as in - forgive them o Lord, for they know not they have sinned)

d) If people want to find out more about something that you state as an authority, then you consider it as a challenge and then you do not want to have anything to do with that person anymore.

The More Your Sarge, The More You Score

The More Your Sarge, The More You Score

Dear Speed Seduction® Student,

Sarging, like sales, is a “numbers game.” Sometimes she will tell you “no” even when you thought she was definitely going to bang you. Sometimes she “flakes.” Sometimes she wastes your time that, had you known, you could have more productively spent Sarging on her even hotter roommate.

fotolia 1919498 small The More Your Sarge, The More You ScoreThat’s life in the fast lane, fellas. Part of life. Can’t be helped. Case in point, this e-mail I got:

==============================================

The other night I met a hot woman who showed lots of interest in me. I established rapport well, entertained her well. I had her laughing, smiling, her attention was focused on me completely for 15 minutes. Later on she approached me to continue the conversation. Again, things went very well. She was very into me. She gave me her number, and kissed me good night.

I called her the next morning and said she was busy at work and could she call me back. She called back after 10 minutes. It was a great conversation and she agreed to call me next week when she’s back from a trip she’s leaving for.

Then, she called me again 10 minutes later. She said she had to be honest with me – that she is seeing someone, and that it would cause big difficulties in her relationship if she goes out with me. I said, ok, sure, I’ll leave it up to you. She said she’d had a great night with me last night and she’d been a bit drunk. She thanked me for understanding her situation.

What happened here? How do I stop this from happening again?

==============================================

First of all, let’s focus on the Speed Seduction® mindset that is crucial here, that I think you already have based on reading this:

“It is COMMON place for you to be able to connect strongly with women and attract them.”

Now, bear in mind: SOME WOMEN ARE JUST NOT IN THE MARKET. They may enjoy the flirting..the attention..the fun…but they just aren’t in the market. HAPPENS TO EVERY F@@KING SINGLE ONE OF US. EVERYONE. Even me, Ross Jeffries.

In the meantime, let me congratulate you. You are up at the plate, swinging. She threw you a curve ball and at least you hit it pretty well, even if it did land foul. Next time you step up, you might hit a home run! It might even be at her place – with her even hotter roommate!

Peace and piece,

RJ

P.S. This student is on the right track. This one didn’t work out, but there’s next time – and “next time” can be 5 minutes from now. The more you Sarge, the more you find the women who say “HELL YES!”

P.P.S. If enjoying damn near ridiculous levels of success, satisfaction and pleasure with the most amazing women around is your goal, then you need my Speed Seduction® 3.0 Course.

Using Logical Levels to Organize?

On critique of Dilt's neurological levels, I've read claims that real logical levels is when a higher category includes and transcends each category of lower level within that higher category, and so on. And that moving up each level is "going meta". And, that is different from hierarchical levels like CEO to manager to technicians, etc.

Well this principle seems very powerful and helpful for getting organized in office, home, etc. For example, organizing rooms in the house, the filing system in the office, and bunch of different data. Also seems very useful in organizing thoughts and seeing how others think.

The problem I feel, is that there are so many different ways to logically categorize.(which I think is why using tags and database type of storage of information is so useful due to the flexibility of ordering) It would feel great to develop better ways to organize for practical usefulness using logical levels though.

Any thoughts or help on most efficient ways to apply logical levels for organizing life?

Radio Loony

Obviously easier for those who speak some spanish but..

Manu chao has released an alblum that is a collaboration with psychiatric patients who run an Argentine radio station called Radio Loony.

The Spanish-French singer recorded the album in Jose Borda, a psychiatric hospital in Buenos Aires which is home to Radio La Colifata, a name derived from slang for lunatic.

The album, Viva La Colifata!, features 20 songs about life, love, loneliness, death, sunshine, mothers and the end of the world. It mixes some old Chao tunes with mostly new material from the singer and patients, including poetry and improvisations. The idea, according to the publicity blurb, is to "laugh, cry and meditate about life".

The album is available for free download at VivaLaColifata.org, a website launched by Chao and the radio station, but people are asked to make a donation to help the hospital's pioneering approach to treating mental illness.

Launched in 1991 as a way to give patients a voice, the station's eclectic amalgam of chat, jokes, music and poetry became a hit and reached 12 million people in Argentina's capital. Chao, 48, who promotes leftist causes and sings in French, Spanish, English and Arabic, became involved in Radio La Colifata a decade ago after reading an article in a French newspaper. He visited the crumbling monolithic building, befriended patients, hosted music workshops and developed the idea of making an album.

Enjoy..

Internal Rep VS Experience? Process VS Content?

Any of you have "visualizations" (can involve any of the rep systems) that are more powerful or as powerful as actual experience of same content?

For me, visualizations are not even close to actual experience in power. Even when I turn up the brightness, make bigger, louder, closer, etc, it's not as powerful as actually seeing/hearing/feeling the same content(without the submodality "boosts".)

More powerful than submodalities for me would be changing the contents of the visualization itself. So visualizing about flying through the sky would feel more powerful than actually sitting down clipping my nails.

So priorities of power in my case appear to be
1. actual experience (over imagining)
2. content/context
3. submodalities/process

This makes me question the usefulness of "process over content" and visualization exercises that use submodalities.

1. Instead of "turning up the submodalities" in NLP textbook fashion, maybe it's more useful to: a)make visualizations as "realistic" as possible for rehearsing (for sports, for example), or b)make visualizations as "unrealistic as possible" for experiencess you're trying to get over. So for example, if someone said something that hurt you, even if you play that back in your mind in a loud volume, you can make it funny by making the voice as unrealistic as possible. Maybe Bugs Bunny voice. Make the person saying it have humongous nostrils. And even change what they said to jibberish or Martian speak.

2. What I said above and my experience implies that maybe content wins over process. If there is a certain goal (content) you're trying to achieve, make your visualizations as "realistic" or close to the actual content as possible. If there are things that you want to avoid or get over, change the content of the memory or experience: a) remove yourself physically from or change the actual experience thus changing content, or b) change the content of the memory by altering it to appear/sound/feel as unrealistic as possible. If someone scared you, imagine them as a mouse (or whatever content you find to be goofy).

EFT & Healing

Kent & East Sussex Practise Group
Wednesday 28th October John-David Biggs - EFT / Healing

John-David Biggs is an active member of the KESNLP Practise group and will be explaining how he uses EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) in his healing practice, alongside his qualified practice of Moativational Medicine - named after Richard Moat the founder. Central to John-David's healing work is his belief that every ailment or disease has a large element of emotional stress as its cause. By his use of gentle but incisive questioning he can help his client to identify the emotional cause of their condition. He then uses EFT to discharge the negative associations with these causes, often with remarkable and permanent results.

John-David will also be demonstrating EFT to the whole group during his presentation, so bring your ailments and troubles with you! You won't be required to reveal them, but you may well find an improvement by the end of the night

We meet at The United Reform Church Hall in Hawkenbury TN2 5AW. It is next to the One Stop shop see website for map www.kesnlp.co.uk

There is a £5 entrance fee to cover cost of hall hire

Ever ‘eard of a Bloke Named Sharpley?

Hi there

The "Old Disrespectable" returns, briefly, with news of a new resource.

Some of you may remember that some time ago I embarked on a study of various academic criticisms of the field of NLP. And I'm still at it.

One of the people I've had in mind right from the start of the project is a Dr Christopher Sharpley of Monash University, Victoria, Australia.
Sharpley wrote two articles (1984, 1987) in which he reviewed experiments which investigated just one concept and one technique and (according to some critics of NLP) proved that NLP "doesn't make sense and doesn't work".

Now you might not think that a couple of articles written over 20 years ago can be very important in 2009. So may I point out that the comment I've just quoted comes from the blog of a neurologist at Yale University in 2006. And I've just come across an article by a Dr Gareth Roderique-Davies of the University of Glamorgan which is little more than an abbreviated version of Sharpley's 1984 article, which was published in that university's "Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education" just a few weeks ago, in July 2009.

Now I know many NLPers don't give a stuff about NLP research, but for anyone who would like to get an idea of what this is all about, there is now a detailed study of Sharpley's 1984 article, including a rather interesting explanation from Sharpley about why he wrote the review article in the first place, here:

Sharpley #1

Hope this is of interest.

I'm off now to write a sub-FAQ on Sharpley's second article.

Be well

The Arte of NLP, a Response to Criticism of NLP

NLP is phenomenological (embedded in subjectivity) as opposed to objective. It is also pragmatic, or use valuing, as opposed to truth valuing. That is, it is looking from the subjective perspective out and deciding what to include and do based on its use or the results the activity garners in respect to the activity's intent.

It is not trying and failing to be neuroscience. It is a completely different kind of practice, a practice of a different logical type. It is technology proceding from philosophy, an applied philosophy, rather than technology proceeding from science, or an applied science. An old word for applied philosophy as opposed to applied science is an Arte.

Anyone attacking NLP for not being scientific or for being a pseudoscience are misunderstanding what NLP is at a fundamental level. They are judging it by the wrong standards.

Hypnosummit September 19-20: Sign up this weekend for $50 discount

Several weeks ago I spent a couple of hours on camera being interviewed by Melissa Roth, an organizer of Hypnosummit, and her daughter, Caitlin. My 2-hour segment will begin with our 1984 Fast Phobia Cure video (7 minutes) including a recent 25-year follow-up interview with the client. Since I wanted to show what NLP can do (as well as talk about it) I demonstrated with both Melissa and her daughter, interspersed with discussion, including a demonstration with Caitlin using the grief process that Connirae and I developed some 20 + years ago. (A free article about the NLP grief process is on my web site.)

Hypnosummit is a 50-hour plus presentation of streaming video of a wide variety of people doing hypnosis and hypnotherapy. You can watch all this at your convenience—as often as you want—over a period of 3 weeks for one price. Stop Reinventing The Wheel…And Take Her For A Spin Already!

Stop Reinventing The Wheel...And Take Her For A Spin Already!

Dear Speed Seduction® Student,

I think just about every smart guy out there knows what it’s like when his Sarge is derailed – either within the first 30 seconds, or when he’s just 30 seconds from f@@king her brains out – but then she says the “B” word.

fotolia 1598703 small Stop Reinventing The Wheel...And Take Her For A Spin Already! You know which “B” word… as in, “I have a Boyfriend.”

In my teachings on how to approach women, I go in-depth on patterns such as the “Boyfriend Destroyer” and “Boyfriend Ignorer.” Sometimes, though, the chick is all but outright begging you to persuade her to dump her “borefriend”, or at least forget him for a while.

Not sure what to do? Here’s a student facing this issue:

==============================================

I need help, Ross. I’ve been Sarging this amazing hottie. She’s incredible. Oh man. she has wonderful qualities – successful, happy, unabused, low-maintenance, intelligent. But she’s with this borefriend. Here’s the thing though – according to her, she’s never actually been in love!!

In my Sarging, I’ve been exploring with her some of the values she sees herself to be in a state of ‘love’. She says, ‘vulnerability’! She is one who never wants to be vulnerable in normal life, and will spend hours into the night making herself bulletproof in her presentations and her work. But she expects that she needs to be vulnerable to a man, before she will get to the next level of ‘love’ via being vulnerable to this partner.

==============================================

Let me digress for one second. Recently on my blog, I covered the issue of when you’re working too hard and not getting anywhere, how to let 80% of the seduction be powered by the information and responses SHE gives you.

That being said, I think she’s already given you a lot to work from. So let me challenge your thinking.

One of the mistakes in your approach is you are going to try to give her an experience she has never had before … being in love … in order to get her away from her current “borefriend”. You might be working too hard here.

What if you just had to be a bit more tempting…a bit more exciting…a bit more tasty…a bit more aggressive…a bit more whatever, than him?

Think about all you’ve learned thus far and how to use it.

Peace and piece,

RJ

P.S. If you already know what’s on her mind, how her mind works…if she’s already TOLD YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET HER IN BED…why are you still trying to figure it out?

That’s like pulling an all-nighter for your midterm after the TA you’ve been nailing already gave you the answers.

She’s not in love with this “borefriend” of hers, and she’s handed you the keys to her door. Now it’s time to get her soaking herself until she can’t take it anymore and ditches him for you. Let me show you how, by revealing my Secrets Of Hyper-Response And “Core-Attraction”. Get yours, and start getting some, now:

Between Time

In the "Building and Maintaining Generalizations" DVDs richard talks about being 'between time' (as in in time and through time). Although none of the other resources I own mention between time I gather from what he says that it is when the person is comparing different experiences of different times.
Could someone please elaborate on this more? If a through time person has their timeline going outside their body and in time through their body, then how would a between time person's timeline be organized generally at that moment?

I Made a Sub-modality Sheet, Have I Left Anything Out?

As I stated in previous posts I have been having problems with sub-modalities, but at the end of Bandler and MacDonald's book (1988) there are some good questions. I've made what I'm calling a memory sheet, do you think it is a good idea and will help to identify and become more familiar with sub-modalities?

It is hosted here in PDF format:
